Bound For Glory

Bound For Glory, Timothy Botts, Tyndale House, Inspirational/Gift Book, October 21, 2011, 128 pages.

Synopsis: Bound for Glory is a powerful gift book inspired by a collection of calligraphic paintings by world-renowned calligrapher Timothy R. Botts. The book features 52 paintings that are visual interpretations—in words and pictures—of African American spiritual songs. These amazing songs are an important part of our American heritage, and they continue to give us hope in the face of life’s many challenges. The book also includes 52 reflective readings from Botts and African-American writer and speaker Patricia Raybon. It also includes lyrics from the spirituals along with inspirational Scripture verses from the New Living Translation.

My thoughts: Not having explored calligraphy before, I find this book interesting. I found Botts' reflections more helpful than Raybon's, but the art was usually captivating, and very relevant. I liked learning about African culture in the small ways that it shone through in this book. In closing, I'd say this is worth buying only if you really enjoy calligraphic art, or have a fascination with African culture and Gospel songs.

This book was provided free by the Tyndale House Publishers. I was not required to write a positive review, and the opinions expressed are my own.

My rating: 3 stars
